School of Docs: Graduating in Technical Writing
Unity, 1st floor, Union House, Union Streetuni, London, GBTechnical writing is a discipline which calls to people from all kinds of industries and backgrounds. People in software and API developer roles, product managers and hardware engineers have all found themselves graduating into tech writer roles, but what about people who’ve literally graduated with a degree in this discipline?
This September, Write The Docs London is proud to present School of Docs: Graduating in Technical Writing, which sees Dr. Ann Marcus-Quinn Ph.D, Associate Professor in Technical Communication and Instructional Design at the University of Limerick and Gareth Brinn, MA and Documentation Manager at Gravitee give presentations on taking – and making – the scholarly route to technical writing.
Speaking remotely from Limerick, Dr. Ann will open the event, and will discuss UL’s online Graduate Certificate programme in Technical Writing and the MA in Technical Writing and E-Learning, how they both were developed and structured.
Gareth Brinn will then give his talk, ‘Five Years, One Discipline: From MA to Documentation Manager’ about his experiences earning his Masters qualification, and then working at Gravitee, how formal training holds up against product work in a professional environment.
